Built by someone who’s been on the other side of the ticket.

Jones Mays started in Houston classrooms, built a district technology department from nothing in rural Mississippi, and founded Mays Consulting Group in 2010 to give more districts that kind of support.

The team brings more than 40 years of combined EdTech experience, and we believe a school’s technology deserves a full-time owner, not a side duty for whoever knows computers.

How we got here

Three decades in school technology, from wiring classrooms to running a department.

Early 1990s

Helped schedule Houston ISD’s first NetDay events, when volunteers wired schools for the internet, and built the district’s first school-based website.

1997

Named Houston ISD Teacher of the Year.

2000–2008

Built the technology department at Holly Springs School District in Mississippi. The nine-person team had zero turnover in seven years.

2005

Cisco Systems “EdTech Leader on the Move,” a national award.

2006 and 2008

Mississippi State Technology Educator of the Year.

2007

City of Holly Springs Change Maker Award.

2010

Founded Mays Consulting Group in Houston.

Today

Leading MCG while completing a Ph.D. in Educational Technology Leadership at Pepperdine University. MCG’s EdTech integration approach was invited for presentation at the National CAPE Conference in Washington, D.C.

What stays the same on every engagement

Documentation

Systems are written down before, during, and after we touch them. Nothing lives only in one person’s head.

Named contacts

You always know who is responsible, and you have their number.

Plain language

Technical work explained so superintendents and board members can act on it.

Compliance from the start

FERPA and CIPA shape the build from day one, so there’s no cleanup before an audit.

A reporting schedule

Updates arrive on a set schedule, not only when something breaks.

The long haul

We stay through the next budget cycle, not just the rollout.

Training the next generation of school IT

Developing people has been part of the work since Holly Springs. Today MCG runs a paid internship with Texas Southern University’s computer science department.

Interns work alongside our team in real districts, on real tickets, and leave with the kind of experience most graduates don’t get until their second job.
